Some processes are more important than others. Maybe you like to run an ftp client or p2p software all the time on your system, maybe a backup software or a messenger client. You may also want to make sure that parental controls or other monitoring or security applications are running all the time on a system. It can happen that important processes exit or get killed which may not be a problem if you are sitting in front of your computer, but may be a problem if you are not anywhere near it.
A program like ReStartMe monitors select processes on the system to ensure that they are running. It is in this regard similar to Restart on Crash and The Restarter.
You need to install the program before you can use it, but installation should not pose any difficulties. The program requires elevated rights on start up.
It displays a list of all processes that it monitors in the interface. The list is empty on the first program start obviously. A click on the Add a process button opens a selection menu where a running process or a local executable can be selected. The application is then added to the list of watched processes.
ReStartMe will restart the process on the system if it should close down for any reason. You find options at the bottom of the program window that allow you to remember processes for the next startup. If you do not select the option the process list will be empty once you exit and start the application again.
Processes that are not already started can be ignored, watched or started in this case. Additional options include starting the program with Windows, minimizing it on start up to the system tray or locking it with a password to protect it from tampering.
ReStartMe is a handy program for Windows users who want to make sure that one or multiple processes or programs are running all the time on the operating system. Windows users can download the software from the official developer website. The program is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the operating system.
